Supporting Tests

In addition to playing/singing their pieces and performing technical work, candidates take two supporting tests.

Exam Structure and Mark Scheme

Trinity College London practical graded exams are numbered from 1 to 8 in increasing order of difficulty. In many subjects, an Initial examination acts as an introduction to the examination system.

The structure of graded exams is as follows*:

Aural

Trinity College London Aural Tests from 2007 offers explanations, sample answers and advice on completing the Aural section of the exam.

It is published in two volumes: Initial to Grade 5 and Grade 6 to Grade 8. Each volume includes a CD containing sample tests.

These books are still valid for the current syllabuses and are available to purchase from your local music shop or online from www.trinitypublications.com.au

Sight Reading

The parameters for sight reading for each grade are outlined at the front of each syllabus. Please check these carefully whilst preparing for the exam.

The Sound at Sight series gives full instructions and practice materials for preparation for the sight reading tests for each instrument and each grade.
