Tribute to Anne Thompson – Mackay Representative

Anne Thompson will be remembered always as a wonderful teacher to many and Mackay has been blessed for her life in music. Anne passed away last Thursday at home.

For Trinity College London, Anne was a local area representative since 1980 – an extraordinary length of service having made her as one of the longest serving representatives in Australia’s history. Through this work, she co-ordinated all the Drama & Speech, and Music examinations.

In Anne, Trinity had a passionate educator, but also a fine administrator – a person who was truly dedicated to assisting teachers and students. Anne also enjoyed meeting and working with the visiting examiners from the UK. As the news of Anne’s passing goes around the globe in the Trinity world, examiners who have experienced Anne’s hospitality and care remember her with great affection. Anne’s impact was beyond Mackay, as you have heard.

To so many, Anne was more than a music teacher of great excellence; she was also a friend. Julie McIntyre, our Townsville representative has said: “Anne will remain in my memory as a truly sincere and very dear friend. Her generosity of spirit was infectious. Her loyalty to Trinity knew no bounds and she shared her musical talents with many students, teachers and friends. We are the richer for having her in our lives.”

She was a lady of rare distinction, and no doubt her legacy of music will endure in the lives of her students and their families. Thank you Anne for giving so much to so many for so long.
